Conservatorship

A conservatorship protects an adult with a mental and/or physical disability, the “ward”, who needs assistance with legal issues. Not all disabled adults need a conservatorship. The need for a conservatorship is determined by the court.

Conservatorships are overseen by the court. There a two types of conservatorships: a conservator for the person and a conservator over the estate/property. A conservator for the person makes medical and day-to-day decisions for the ward. A conservator over property handles the financial matters of the ward.
